Strasburg Christian Church Strasburg, Virginia |
Peter Stover, founder of Strasburg wrote his will in 1799 and in it makes reference to an "old Schoolhouse. He left a large sum for education purposes, as shown on page 130. Christian Stover, his son, made a deed for the lot that forms the major portion of the Strasburg school grounds now in use. In 1805 Joseph Stover, for $10, deeded to seven trustees a lot opposite the site of the Presbyterian Church in Strasburg for a school house and a free Christian Church. That is, the one building was to be usable for church and school. A building was soon erected thereon, which was used for many years for both purposes. This old building was removed a generation or two ago, but is still remembered by numerous residents of the town.
This old church and school sat at the south west corner of Holiday and High streets.
It is noted in, "A history of Frederick County, Virginia", (1908) by T. K. Cartmell, his article titled, "The Christian or Disciples Church.".
This article reads as follows;
